Project Jelly Roll- This Is How We Roll!

Posted by Diana Wendorf on

Welcome to What's Up Wednesday!

National Sew a Jelly Roll Day  encourages creativity among makers, sewists, and quilters. Jelly rolls, for those who may not be familiar, are pre-cut strips of fabric that often feature coordinating patterns and colors. They're a convenient way to jumpstart sewing projects, whether it's quilts, bags, runners, pillows, clothing, rugs, or any other fabric-based creations.

Project Jelly Roll's introduction of "National Sew A Jelly Roll Day" in 2006, inspired by Moda Fabrics, provides a designated day for enthusiasts to come together and celebrate their love for sewing and quilting using jelly rolls. Taking place annually on the 3rd Saturday in September, this event encourages people to break open a jelly roll and start a project during the weekend.  Be sure to check out our Classes and Events section to see  how Affinity For Quilts will be celebrating in Jelly Roll style.

Our sample makers have been busy and we have some great new samples to share with you this week.

Our first sample features fabrics from the Wild Cottage line from Figo Fabrics.  The Penny Quilt by Erica Jackman from Kitchen Table Quilting comes together much more quickly than you would probably think.  Our sample is the lap size measuring 55" x 74".  Limited kits are available for $119.99.

Lets take a break from quilts and check out our newest table runner!  Winding Ribbons from Pine Tree Country Quilts measures 19" x 63-1/2" and features the Mediterrania collection by Joycelyn Benford for QT fabrics.  The original thing about this runner kit is that you can make two runners for the price of one.  Limited kits are available for $69.99.

For those who love the color of autumn leaves we have the perfect wall hanging, or lap quilt, for the season.  Drifting Down by Mimi Hollenbaugh from Bound To Be Quilting features the Autumn Splendor collection by Linda Ludovico for Northcott Fabrics.  The quilt measures 43" x 52" and limited kits are available for $70.99.

Last year we found this great book titled Mini Wonderful Curves from Sew Kind of Wonderful using the QCR Mini ruler and we are still making projects from this book and teaching classes using this fun technique.  For the 2023 holiday season we want to showcase The Giving Tree.  This wall-hanging measures 28" x 35" and we have limited kits available for $34.99.

Be sure to check out our Classes and Event section for the class being offered on December 2nd.  This is the same technique that is used for Posh Santa, Posh Holly, Early Riser, and Freedom Flag.

Garden Gate Roosters, designed by Susan Winget from Wilmington Prints, is a delightful collection for anyone who enjoys a farmhouse-style aesthetic. With roosters, chicken wire, feather texture fabric and small ditsy floral patterns this collection seems to capture the essence of a charming country setting. . The panel is designed to make four place-mats which are always a great addition to any dining table. The project possibilities for this collection are endless.

Flora & Fun is a fun collection of flowers, animals and insects. The designer is Subhashini Narayanan, a graphic artist from India, and this is her first collection for Robert Kaufman.

Sunflowers In My Heart by Kate Spain for Moda fabrics was designed with the through of love and radiance in mind. The bright hues and fabulous patterns are sure to bring a smile to your heart.
