Don't Miss Our Freebie Monday!

Posted by Diana Wendorf on

Welcome to What's Up Wednesday!
One of the highlights of the end of summer is always a trip to the Minnesota State Fair! Hubby and I had a chance to spend a day at the Fair, and naturally, a stop at the Creative Activities building was at the top of my list. We were on the hunt for quilts displaying ribbons sponsored by Affinity For Quilts. We didn’t manage to find them all, but we certainly enjoyed looking—and admiring all of the incredible talent on display! Congratulations to each of the quilters whose beautiful work was selected for the Fair. We snapped a few photos along the way, so take a look at some of the beautiful quilts that received an Affinity For Quilts sponsored ribbon!

Mark your calendar—National Jelly Roll Day is September 19th! It’s the perfect excuse to celebrate one of our favorite precuts and all the creative possibilities packed into those 2½" strips. We’ve stocked up on Jelly Rolls, along with patterns and books filled with inspiration to help you put them to good use. Whether you’re looking for a quick new project or simply can’t resist adding another Jelly Roll to your stash, stop in and see what’s waiting for you!

With fall just around the corner, it’s time to start planning a road trip filled with beautiful scenery and plenty of quilt shops! The Northwoods Quilt Trek is coming October 2nd–9th, and Affinity For Quilts is excited to be one of 11 participating shops. Travel Highways 35 and 61, enjoy the Minnesota fall colors, and discover a unique fall-themed quilt block kit available for purchase at each stop. Along the way, you’ll have chances to win prize gift baskets—and quilters who visit all 11 shops will be entered to win a JUKI sewing machine! Start making your plans now, and find all the Northwoods Quilt Trek details in our Classes & Events section below.

September 14th is Freebie Monday!
It's time for Freebie Monday! Join us Monday, September 14th, and when you spend $25 or more pre-tax, you’ll receive a FREE 6" x 8" cutting board. This handy little size is perfect to keep next to your sewing machine, take along to class or retreat, or use whenever you need a quick trim. Stop in, do a little shopping, and take home a fun freebie while supplies last!
Check Out Our Newest Sample
Just in time for National Jelly Roll Day, we have a new sample to share! All Star is a Jelly Roll-friendly quilt featuring the Sunshine & Dandelions collection by Traci Reed and finishes at a generous 67" x 79". It’s a wonderful example of just how much you can create with those favorite 2½" strips. Stop in to see All Star in person and get inspired for your next Jelly Roll project! Limited kits are available for $109.00.
Double Villa Rosa Fun
We have double the Villa Rosa fun for you this month! Somehow our August Villa Rosa patterns were misplaced, but the good news is—we found them! And wouldn’t you know it, the very same day we found August’s patterns, the September patterns arrived. That means twice the inspiration from our favorite little 4" x 6" pattern cards! Stop in and check out both months’ selections—you just might find your next project (or two)!
New Fabric Arrivals

A burst of color has arrived at Affinity For Quilts! Kaleidoscope by artist Peggy Collins for Camelot Fabrics is a stunning collection filled with jewel-toned raindrops and swirling, medallion-inspired umbrellas, all created in Peggy’s signature stained-glass style. The collection pairs beautifully with the dazzling Kaleidoscope stained-glass cat panel, bringing together brilliant color, light, and intricate detail. If you love bold, vibrant fabrics that make a statement, Kaleidoscope is definitely one you’ll want to see in person!

Step into the enchanting woodland world of Tanglewood by Deborah Edwards for Northcott Fabrics. This charming new collection brings the forest to life with playful foxes, owls, bears, and other woodland friends nestled among winding vines, whimsical mushrooms, and birch trees. Coordinating textured prints add warmth and depth, making Tanglewood a wonderful choice for cozy quilts, children’s projects, and nature-inspired creations. Tip Of The Week

Want an easy way to help keep dust off your wall hangings and other fabric décor? Try giving them a light spray of Scotchgard. It can help protect the fabric and make it easier to gently brush away dust, keeping your handmade pieces looking fresh.

If you have a tip you'd like to share with our readers, feel free to email Diana at quilt@affinityforquilts.com.

Top-A-Long Sewing Adventure

We’re excited to bring back the Affinity For Quilts Top-A-Long for another season of sewing, sharing, and quilting fun! Our last Top-A-Long was such a wonderful experience, and we’re looking forward to gathering our quilting community together once again.

If you’re new to the fun, a Top-A-Long is a collaborative sewing experience where quilters work on the same quilt top or runner each month. With the cooler months ahead, it’s the perfect excuse to spend a little more time in your sewing room while being part of a fun quilting community.

Over the next seven months, we’ll make a different quilt top or runner each month using patterns from Villa Rosa Designs. Along the way, we’ll also introduce you to some of the talented designers behind these popular patterns. We encourage you to shop your stash and finally use some of those special fabrics you’ve been saving for just the right project!

On the first Saturday of each month, we’ll gather at Affinity For Quilts for our Top-A-Long event. You’ll receive that month’s FREE pattern, enjoy show-and-tell from the previous month, and see the new sample quilt or runner revealed in the shop. And there’s a little mystery involved—you won’t know which pattern we’re making next until the meeting!

Can’t attend in person? You can still participate! We’ll mail your free pattern so you can sew along from home. Send us a photo of your completed quilt top or runner by text or email, and you’ll be included in that month’s prize drawing.

Finish your project each month and you’ll be entered to win a fun quilty prize!  Plus, quilters who participate throughout the seven-month Top-A-Long will have a chance at our grand prize: one lucky participant will have the quilt top of their choice professionally longarm quilted, courtesy of Diana!

Whether you join us at the shop or sew along from home, we hope you’ll be part of another season of sewing, sharing, stash-busting, and quilting fun at Affinity For Quilts!

Kick-off Date:  Saturday, October 3 , 2026
Time:  9:30am
Instructor:  Diana Wendorf and Becky Umenthum
Class Fee:  $20.00  (includes monthly Villa Rosa pattern)
