Food and Toy Drive

Posted by Diana Wendorf on

Welcome to What's Up Wednesday!

Grab your coffee and settle in — we missed you last week! A few technical hiccups kept our newsletter from going out, but we’re back on track and excited to catch up with you. This week’s edition is packed with fun updates, upcoming events, and plenty of quilting inspiration to keep you stitching happily through the season.

At Affinity For Quilts, community means everything to us. This holiday season, we’re proud to once again partner with the White Bear Lake Lions Club to collect food and toy donations for local families in need.  You’ll find the donation bin conveniently located near the front register. To thank you for your generosity, we’re offering special savings on fabric purchases:

• 10% off with a donation of a non-perishable food item
• 15% off with a donation of an unwrapped toy, mittens, hat, or scarf
• 20% off with a donation of both a non-perishable food item and an unwrapped toy, mittens, hat, or scarf

Please note: discounts do not apply to Quilt Minnesota or Sale Wall fabrics.  Your kindness helps make the season brighter for our community — and we’re so grateful for your support.

We’re kicking things off by joining our Wisconsin neighbors once again for the Holiday Shop Hop, running November 15–22. This year marks our fifth anniversary participating, and the theme, “Five Golden Rings,” couldn’t be more festive. Visit all eight participating shops to collect your green squares for the custom-made pattern and enter for a chance to win a $75 gift basket.   Full event details can be found in the Classes and Events section below.

At the same time as the Shop Hop, we’ll also be joining the Downtown White Bear Lake Holiday Open House on November 20. It’s the perfect day to enjoy a fun shopping experience—stop by Affinity For Quilts and explore other wonderful White Bear Lake businesses. We’ll be open until 8 p.m. for your shopping convenience. Full event details can be found in the Classes and Events section below.

Next up is one of our favorite weekends of the year—our Black Friday, November 28th,  and Small Business Saturday, November 29th, sale. These back-to-back events are always full of great deals and holiday cheer. This year, we’re combining the fun into one big celebration with a single gift basket drawing, so be sure to stop in both Friday and Saturday to double your chances to win.  Stay tuned for all the details about our specials and activities in the Events and Classes section below. You won’t want to miss it.

Tip Of The Week

When doing machine appliqué, use embroidery-weight thread for the best results. It’s designed to work smoothly with your fabric and stitches, helping prevent puckering or distortion. Heavier threads can cause uneven tension, so choose the right thread to keep your appliqué looking smooth and professional.

If you have a tip you'd like to share with our readers, feel free to email Diana at quilt@affinityforquilts.com.
