Fall Frenzy is Here!

Posted by Diana Wendorf on

Welcome to What's Up Wednesday!

Fall has officially arrived, and Affinity For Quilts is ready to celebrate the season in style! Join us for Downtown White Bear Lake’s Fall Frenzy Ladies Night, where you can enjoy sweet treats, sip on a delicious fall punch, take advantage of special in-store promotions, and enter to win exciting door prizes.

Just a few days later, the fun continues with the Northwoods Quilt Trek! Visit 11 fantastic quilt shops while taking in the beautiful autumn scenery along Interstate 35. When you reach Duluth, continue your adventure up scenic Highway 61 to explore our favorite quilting shops from Two Harbors to Lutsen.

You can find all the details for both events in the Classes and Events section below.

Last week, I mentioned that you might start seeing more than one email a week from Affinity For Quilts. It turns out that announcement sparked quite a few unsubscribes from our email list!

Important to know: if you unsubscribe from the Mystery Five-0 emails, you’ll also stop receiving our weekly What’s Up Wednesday newsletter. We completely understand if the Mystery Five-0 program isn’t your thing, but we’d hate for you to miss out on all the latest shop news, classes, and events. If it’s not for you, simply hit delete and keep enjoying our weekly updates!

We love staying connected with you and sharing everything happening at the shop—thanks for being part of our quilting community!

NOTICE: Creative Grids® is having an issue with foreign counterfeit rulers on Amazon. The counterfeit rulers have less effective grip dots, lower grade acrylic, and less accurate markings. We are taking steps to stop the counterfeiters, but in the meantime here are known Amazon counterfeit sellers: Raymond Bart, Music Beikeyu, Choose Best, Denggulong, Lroom, and Sunitek. Unfortunately, Amazon is commingling their counterfeit inventory with other legitimate Amazon sellers. Therefore, even if you order from a legit Amazon seller you might receive a counterfeit. Until this issue is resolved, we suggest you purchase from your local quilt shop or one of our trusted online retailers. Use the Where to Buy tab to find a Creative Grids® retailer near you.

Tip Of The Week

Worried a fabric might bleed? Here’s a quick way to check before you start sewing! Cut a small piece of the fabric, get it nice and wet, and place it on a white paper towel. If no color shows on the towel, you’re good to go!

If you do see color, don’t worry—just prewash the fabric separately until the water runs clear. This will help keep your finished quilt bright and beautiful.

If you have a tip you'd like to share with our readers, feel free to email Diana at quilt@affinityforquilts.com.

Top-A-Long Sewing Adventure

You asked, we listened! Our last Top-A-Long was such a hit that we’re thrilled to be hosting it again!

A Top-A-Long is a fun, collaborative sewing experience where quilters come together to create the same quilt top. With winter approaching, I thought this would be a perfect, cozy project for our quilting community!

Over the next seven months, we’ll create a quilt top or runner each month, with every session featuring a new pattern from Villa Rosa Designs and highlighting the talented designers behind this popular collection of patterns.

We encourage you to dive into your fabric stash and incorporate those special pieces you've been saving.

On the first Saturday of each month, we’ll gather for a special event where you’ll receive your free pattern and enjoy a show-and-tell session. The sample quilt for that month will also be revealed and displayed in the shop. The best part? You won’t know what the next quilt will be until the meeting!

If you can’t attend in person, don’t worry—you can still join in the fun! We’ll mail you the free pattern in time for the meeting, and you can send a photo of your completed quilt top via text or email to be entered into our monthly prize drawing.

Each month, when you finish your quilt top, you’ll be entered to win a fun quilty gift. Plus, at the end of the six-month event, one lucky participant will receive the top of their choice to be long-armed , courtesy of Diana.
