Tis’ the Season to Give

Posted by Diana Wendorf on

Welcome to What's Up Wednesday!

Thank you to everyone who shopped with us for Small Business Saturday—your support truly means so much. We love being part of the community of small businesses in downtown White Bear Lake, and we’re grateful you chose to spend your day supporting local shops like ours.

It’s time to turn the calendar page to December, and for many of us that means the busiest season of the year is officially here. The to-do list feels never-ending—decorating, shopping, baking, events and get-togethers, and of course putting the final touches on those last-minute homemade gifts. Affinity for Quilts is here to help with gift ideas and inspiration to make the season a little easier.

Here are our holiday hours to help you plan your visit: We will be closed on Wednesday, December 24 and Thursday, December 25 for the holiday. We’ll reopen at 9:00am on Friday, December 26, and we’ll even be open on Sunday, December 28. Then we will close again on Monday, December 29 and remain closed through Thursday, January 1 so we can complete our yearly inventory. We will reopen at 9:00am on Friday, January 2, 2026.

Giving To Our Community

Thank you to everyone who has already donated—your generosity reflects the true spirit of our quilting community. We’re honored to partner again with the White Bear Lake Lions Club to collect food and toy donations for local families in need. The donation bin is near the front register, and Saturday, December 6 is the last day to contribute.

As our way of saying thank you, we’re offering special savings on fabric purchases:

  • 10% off with a donation of a non-perishable food item

  • 15% off with a donation of an unwrapped toy, mittens, hat, or scarf

  • 20% off with a donation of both a non-perishable food item and an unwrapped toy, mittens, hat, or scarf

Please note: Discounts do not apply to Quilt Minnesota or Sale Wall fabrics.

Your kindness helps brighten the season for families in our community, and we are deeply grateful for your support.

Holiday Ornament
For the first time in over 20 years, this beloved holiday tradition is back. Our 2025 Collectible Downtown White Bear Lake Mainstreet ornament is available now at Affinity For Quilts and other participating businesses. These beautiful ornaments are locally made by Mark and Vicki of Lasered Pics MN.
New Samples
Fresh new samples have arrived, and we’re blaming the sample elves. They’ve been busy after hours—stitching, pressing, and sprinkling a little extra quilt-shop magic—so you’ll have plenty of new inspiration the next time you stop in. Come see what they’ve been up to and pick your next project.

Welcome a new baby in your life with our latest sample: the Bennett quilt pattern by Branch & Blume Patterns. This Baby/Small Throw size finishes at 45.5" x 48.5" and is made using the To the Moon & Back Fat Quarter bundle by Paper + Cloth for Moda Fabrics. The bundle is non-gender specific, with soft, neutral tones that fit the look so many new moms love these days.  Fat-Quarter bundle is available for $67.99.

You really need to see this in person—the photos don’t do it justice!
Meet our new First Light sample, designed by Kris Holderness—a calm, woodland-inspired quilt made with the dreamy Fox Den collection by Deborah Edwards and Melanie Samra for Northcott Fabrics. This panel-friendly pattern highlights a striking fox panel at the center, surrounded by coordinating prints that bring the forest to life. Ombres and rich textures add depth and movement, while plaid and bark-like motifs give it a cozy, rustic finish. The quilt measures 56" x 68", and limited kits are available for $83.00.
Our last new sample features the Marble Floor quilt pattern from Project X Fluidity, designed by Lisa Swenson Ruble. Made with Marta Cortese’s Project X Fluiditycollection and enhanced with Metallic Gold accents, it has a modern look with beautiful movement and plenty of sparkle. The quilt finishes at 56" x 68", and we have limited kits available for $89.99.

Tip Of The Week

Tis the season of gift giving, so make sure the recipient of your handmade gift knows how to care for it. Include a simple note with washing instructions: wash separately in cold water on a gentle cycle and tumble dry low (or lay flat to dry) for best results. If your fabrics were not pre-washed, tuck in a box of Color Catchers (found in most grocery store laundry aisles) and suggest using 2–4 sheets in the first wash to help prevent color transfer.

If you have a tip you'd like to share with our readers, feel free to email Diana at quilt@affinityforquilts.com.
