Free Motion Quilt Class

Are you ready to break free from straight lines and explore the creative side of quilting? Join us for this Free Motion Quilting workshop, where you'll learn to move beyond the feed dogs and discover how to quilt fluid, expressive designs—all on your home sewing machine.

This hands-on class is designed for confident beginners and beyond. You’ll practice on multiple quilt sandwiches during this class.

What you'll learn:

• How to set up your machine for free motion quilting

• Best practices for tension, thread, and needle choices

• Drawing and practicing common quilting motifs like loops, spirals, meanders, and more

• Tips for improving control, consistency, and movement

• Techniques for warming up your hands and eyes before stitching

No Measure Bargello Quilt Class
2 part class
Get ready to create a quilt that will stop people in their tracks! The Bargello style is known for its incredible movement and color—and in this two-part class, you’ll learn how to make your own stunning throw-sized quilt (54" x 75") using the No-Measure Bargello pattern.

Don’t let the dramatic look fool you—this technique is built from simple strip piecing, and with the right tips, it’s both manageable and fun. We’ll focus on making the process smooth and enjoyable so you can spend more time creating and less time troubleshooting.

In this class, students will learn how to:

• Sew strip sets to prevent curving and distortion
• Press seams correctly to keep everything straight and accurate
• Turn simple strips into a flowing, eye-catching Bargello design

Thread Catcher & Pin Cushion Set

Dog Day Demo & Treats

Calling all dog lovers! White Bear Lake’s annual Dog Days celebration is happening on Saturday, May 23, and Affinity for Quilts is joining the fun. Bring your four-legged friends and stop by. We will have water bowls at both our front and back doors, free dog treats, a free dog bandana pattern and a special dog bag making demo just for you! 

Learn how to make a handy doggie poop bag carrier using Jelly Vinyl. Demos begin at 10:00am and repeat every 45 minutes throughout the event.

Sun Visor

Get ready for sunny days with a handmade visor that’s as practical as it is stylish! In this fun and fast-paced Flash Monday class, you’ll create a sporty visor that’s perfect for gardening, walking, travel, or a day at the lake.
This beginner-friendly project is quick to make and a great way to build confidence working with foam stabilizer and curved seams. Plus, you can customize your visor with your favorite fabrics for a look that’s completely your own.

In this class, students will learn how to:

• Work with ByAnnie’s Soft and Stable to create structure
• Sew curved seams and shape a wearable project
• Construct a functional and comfortable visor

Sashiko Club

Join our Sashiko Club! This is an instructor led open stitching group. During your time together, you will work on your own individual projects and get tips and pointers from other stitchers, and our talented instructor Tammy Berry. During each club Tammy arrives prepared to share patterns, techniques, or a project she is working on. Stitchers are welcome any time throughout the year. Hemingway Pouch Class

Create a stylish quilted zipper pouch with a sporty and unique zipper application that looks impressive but is surprisingly easy to sew! These versatile pouches make wonderful gifts and are perfect for organizing everyday items such as phones, eyeglasses, pencils, Kindles, iPads, or even laptops depending on the size you choose.

Using three coordinating fabrics and a zipper of your choice, you’ll construct a pouch with either foam stabilizer for extra protection or cotton batting for a softer feel. The techniques learned in class can easily be used to create additional pouches in a variety of sizes.

In this class, students will learn how to:

• Install the unique zipper featured in the Hemingway Pouch pattern
• Quilt the pouch layers for structure and durability
• Apply binding to finish the pouch edges
• Add optional features such as a strap or pocket
• Adjust the pouch size to suit different uses

Easy Does It Bag
A ByAnnie pattern project

Another of our ByAnnie pattern classes, Easy Does It is the perfect next step for building confidence in bag making — and it’s also a great class for anyone with a little bag-making experience who wants to sharpen their skills.

In this class, you’ll combine techniques introduced in earlier ByAnnie projects to create a practical, polished bag that’s perfect for everyday use, travel, or organizing your sewing supplies. Even if you haven’t taken the previous classes, students with basic bag-making experience will feel right at home.

In this class, students will learn how to:

• Combine foundational techniques to construct a finished bag
• Sew and install sturdy, professional-looking handles
• Refresh and strengthen skills for sewing with ByAnnie’s Soft and Stable
• Install a zipper with confidence
• Use a stiletto effectively when sewing curves and working with zippers

Coaster Class

In this engaging class, students will learn the art of Sashiko, a traditional Japanese running stitch embroidery technique. Led by Tammy, an expert in the craft, participants will enjoy a morning exploring the fundamentals of Sashiko stitching.

Tuffet Class
